Where to Start When Detoxing Your Home

With warmer weather and fresh blooms, spring is the perfect time to refresh your home and clear out hidden toxins.

But don’t worry - this isn’t a massive, room-by-room overhaul. Small, intentional changes can make a big difference in the air you breathe and how you feel.

Here are some easy ways to start detoxing your home:

🌬 Crack those windows – Let fresh air in daily to help flush out indoor pollutants like dust, pet dander, mold, and lingering fumes.

🌿 Skip the synthetic air fresheners – Opt for a diffuser with essential oils for a clean scent without the chemicals.  I utilize DoTerra and Young Living Essential Oils in my home and office.

🧼 Clean smarter – Many conventional cleaning products contain harsh toxins. Switch to natural, non-toxic options or DIY with simple ingredients like vinegar and baking soda.  Check out Branch Basics!  I have been using their cleaning products since 2017!

🛏 Mattress matters – If you’re due for a new one, consider upgrading to a non-toxic, organic mattress for healthier sleep (and less off-gassing). 

🧽 Freshen up your fabrics – Vacuum rugs and furniture, wash throw pillows and blankets - all of these collect allergens and dust you don’t want to breathe in.

🧹 Dust like you mean it – You’d be amazed (and maybe horrified) at what builds up in those layers. A weekly dusting habit does wonders.

👟 Shoes off, please! – Keep outdoor toxins like pesticides, grime, and germs at the door by creating a shoe-free home zone.  If you prefer shoes on your feet, opt for slippers or house shoes that support your feet well.  For comfortable and stylish options, stop by SoleMates in Fairport and tell them I sent you! 😉
