Good morning, Friends,

What if nothing is wrong with you?

Not that there isn't anything you'd like to change.

Not that everything in your life is exactly as you'd like it to be.

And certainly not that difficult things don't happen.

But what if you are not a problem to be solved?

I've been sitting with that distinction.

Because when we aren't immediately trying to fix ourselves or an experience, perhaps we create room for another question:

What might this experience eventually reveal?

What if there is a gift here?

I don't mean pretending something painful is wonderful.

There are experiences in life we would never choose.

Loss. Disappointment. Illness. Heartbreak. Plans that fall apart. Things we thought were certain suddenly changing.

And in the middle of those experiences, being told to look for the gift can feel pretty hollow.

Sometimes we simply can't see it yet.

Maybe we aren't supposed to.

A diamond doesn't begin as something sparkling in a jewelry case.

It forms under extraordinary conditions—immense pressure, heat, and time. And even then, what emerges doesn't yet look like the diamond we recognize.

Its beauty is revealed later.

Maybe some of our experiences are like that.

We can't always see what is being formed while we're still under the pressure.

Time has a way of revealing things that were impossible to see while we were standing in the middle of them.

An ending may have created room for a beginning we couldn't yet imagine.

A detour may have introduced us to a path we never knew existed.

A challenge may have revealed strength, discernment, or courage we didn't know we had.

The gift isn't necessarily what happened.

The gift may be what eventually becomes possible because of what happened—and what we choose to create from it.

But that requires something we humans don't particularly love.

Uncertainty.

We like knowing.

We make plans. Gather information. Take care of our bodies. Save money. Build relationships. Learn. Prepare.

And I believe deeply in doing those things.

There is so much we can do to nourish ourselves, build strength and resilience, and better prepare ourselves for whatever comes next.

And still...

nothing is certain.

We can make wonderful choices and experience difficult things.

We can prepare carefully and encounter something we never anticipated.

We can worry endlessly about something that never happens.

Perhaps the goal was never to eliminate uncertainty.

Maybe part of living fully is learning to be present within it.

What if this moment doesn't need an answer yet?

Over the past few weeks, we've explored our instinct to fix discomfort, our beautifully protective brains looking for the tiger, and what happens when our attention becomes trained to find what we're looking for.

Underneath all of that may be a very human desire to know:

Am I okay?

Will I be okay?

What does this mean?

What should I do?

There are times when those questions lead us toward something important.

And there are times when the most truthful answer may simply be:

I don't know yet.

Maybe that's okay, too.

We can nourish ourselves. Build strength. Ask for help. Change direction. Make thoughtful choices. Create supportive environments.

We can do our own work when there is work to do.

But we don't have to make ourselves out to be wrong in the process.

Because maybe we were never the problem.

We are participants.

Life will continue to happen.

Bodies will change.

People will surprise us.

Plans will change.

Doors will close, and others will open that we couldn't possibly have anticipated.

There will be pressure.

And there will be beauty.

Perhaps our work isn't to create a life in which nothing uncomfortable or uncertain ever happens.

Maybe it's to trust ourselves enough to meet the life that does.

To remain curious.

To participate.

To allow time to reveal what we cannot yet see.

And when life hands us something we never would have chosen, perhaps we can eventually ask:

What becomes possible from here?

Not because everything that happens is good.

Not because every difficult experience needs to become a lesson.

But because we are still here.

Still creating.

Still becoming.

And maybe, with enough time and a little hindsight, we'll look back and discover some of the beauty that was being formed when all we could feel was the pressure.
