As we welcomed May into our lives, we felt warmer weather and appreciate the beauty of flowering trees and bushes around the Flower City of Rochester! Most of us really love this time of year and enjoy getting out to the Lilac Festival, the unofficial start of summer! With the warmer weather, more people get out for walks, runs, hikes, and other outdoor activities. Here are a few tips to enjoy the weather, flowers, and longer days of light… Look at the bottom of your sneakers/walking/running shoes. If you see wear on the toe or the heel, it is time for a new pair. Investing in a new pair will ensure your gait is balanced and your body is supported with each step. Your muscles, tendons, and ligaments will thank you. Take a look at your surroundings. Look at the trees, plants, and gardens. Smell the flowers. Say hello to a neighbor. Watch the birds, squirrels, and the occasional fox. There is so much beauty to see in this world. Hydrate! Most of us do not drink nearly enough water every day. With humidity and heat, we need to drink more! A good amount to aim for is 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water.
