Hello friends,

The stores are full of backpacks.

Fresh notebooks.

Pencils.

Dorm room supplies.

Parents are preparing children for another year of school, while college students are packing up to begin a new chapter.

There is something about this time of year that feels like a fresh start.

Even if we're no longer students ourselves.

It reminds me that learning has never really been confined to a classroom.

And maybe...

Neither has graduation.

Somewhere along the way, many of us begin believing graduation is something we did...

Instead of something we continue to do.

I've been thinking about that lately.

Because it feels like I'm standing in a new season of my own life.

Looking back, I can see the different classrooms life has invited me into.

Learning to become independent.

Building a career.

Creating a family in my own way.

Starting a business.

Letting go of old expectations.

Learning to care for my body in ways I never needed twenty years ago.

None of those lessons came with a diploma.

But each one changed me.

Each required me to become someone I hadn't been before.

And while I was living them, each season felt like it might last forever.

Then one day...

Without much fanfare...

Life quietly asked something new.

Not because the previous chapter was wrong…

Because I had grown beyond it.

A mentor of mine often describes healing as moving through a spiral.

We don't simply "get better."

We build the capacity to meet what comes next.

As we do, we often become ready to address challenges that once would have overwhelmed us.

In many ways...

We graduate.

Not because we're finished.

Because we've developed the capacity for the next lesson.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if this is true far beyond health.

Perhaps we graduate from proving ourselves...

to becoming ourselves.

From constantly doing...

to learning when to simply be.

From believing we need all the answers...

to becoming comfortable asking better questions.

From trying to fix ourselves...

to learning how to listen.

Even nature reminds us that growth isn't one continuous season.

Spring doesn't apologize for being different from winter.

Autumn doesn't try to bloom like summer.

Every season has its own purpose.

Its own work.

Its own invitation.

Lately, I've been realizing that I may be graduating again.

This season of life is asking different things of me than it did twenty years ago.

Some days, that's exciting.

Other days, it's uncomfortable.

Because every graduation asks us to leave something familiar behind before we fully understand what's ahead.

Perhaps that's why growth so often feels both hopeful and uncertain at the same time.

A Thought to Leave You With

Maybe we don't outgrow the need to learn.

Maybe we outgrow the lessons we've already mastered.

And when that happens...

Life quietly hands us a new classroom.

Not as a test.

But as an invitation.

So wherever you find yourself today, perhaps the question isn't,

"Have I arrived?"

Perhaps it's,

"What is this season asking me to learn?"

Because maybe the goal was never to arrive.

Maybe it's to keep growing into the season we're in.

And to never stop graduating. 🎓
